About Certified Sommelier Liia Konovalova
Port wine is a fortified dessert wine from Portugal that’s known for its variety and flavor complexity. It is made by adding a clear grape spirit during fermentation, which stops the fermentation process and preserves the grapes’ natural sugars. Port wines are renowned for their concentrated palate of rich dried fruit, tobacco, and spice, making them an exceptional after dinner drink to sip or alongside dried fruits, nuts, cheeses and desserts.

About the Port Wines
Port wine is a sweet, fortified wine from Portugal that’s typically made from red grapes grown in the Douro Valley of northern Portugal. It is made by adding a clear grape spirit to the wine during fermentation, which stops the process and preserves the grapes’ natural sugars.
Grapes grown for port are generally characterized by their small, dense fruit which produces concentrated and long-lasting flavors, suitable for long aging and coming in a variety of styles, including ruby, tawny, vintage, and white.
Ports pair well with a range of sweets or as a dessert itself. It can also be enjoyed as an aperitif before your main meal, especially the white and rosé varieties.

About Warre’s 1970 Porto
The 1970 Warre’s Porto Vintage Port Blend from Portugal’s Douro region has received a number of positive reviews, describing it as balanced, sweet, and having a complex palate, with various notes of raspberry, fig, plum, dark chocolate and walnut, alluding to a delightful finish.
For 350 years Warre’s has been a pioneer in the Port trade, from advances in the winery to viticultural research. It was one of the first Port houses to build a lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia in the 18th century, where – to this day – its wines age undisturbed until it’s time for bottling.
Warre’s is known for producing a range of specialist Ports that are not commonly made by other Port houses. The company’s history is synonymous with that of Port itself. Warre’s sources grapes from Quinta da Cavadinha, Quinta do Retiro Antigo, and Quinta da Telhada. They are often served as an apéritif or a digestif, with cheese, nuts, or chocolate. Some of them taste best at room temperature, while others shine when served with a slight chill.
